Football at 300 km/h - Superleague Formula
Just imagine: FC Basel beats Borussia Dortmund. Anderlecht draws AC Milan and the Corinthians win a dramatic match against Flamengo in the very last minute. But what you hear is not the sound of the roar of the fans in the stadiums and you do not see the ball hitting the net.
Actually, what you hear is somewhat even louder than that: it is the whine that 12 cylinders produce in a racing car when they put 750 horse powers on the road. And what you see is a wheel to wheel action of beautiful (and loud at that) silhouettes circling the world’s best motor racing circuits.
© Superleague FormulaIn other words, you see Superleague Formula at its best, packed with action and excitement as the cars bearing football’s finest names battle out for the winner’s prize. This is the “new stuff” uniting probably the two most exciting sports of the world: football and motor car racing taking the battle from the stadiums to the road.
Concieved in 2007 and having had its premiere season in 2008, Superleague Formula is set to conquer two hearts: the one of the eternal football fans and the other beating inside the freaks who worship motor car racing technologies. Out of the excitement of motorsport and the passion of football, this new series is a perfect global marketing product developed for communication, commercial opportunities and television. A brand new global Championship connecting the world’s two most popular sports.
Football fans are born to support their team, the bond is made forever, probably at birth. They support their teams in good times and bad times, even in very bad times...Now they live their passion in a completely new setting: on the race track identifying with the colors of their team on some beautiful, and fast at that, cars.
This is a real car race with packing action, by some of the finest young drivers in the world who take it to an exhilarating racing with a lot of involvement from the football fans that other existing series cannot deliver. The race is accessible, it is inclusive, emotional and involving.
The new Championship takes a unique stance on traditional sporting regulations. The Qualifying replicates the excitement of a penalty shootout as drivers go to their limits in a series of one-lap knockout rounds in the fight for the pole position. This settles the order of the first of the double-header races. The second race is a complete reversal of the finishing positions of the first one: now the winner of the first race is behind. This not only provides for more excitement for the fans but also ensures a host of different winners.
With AC Milan, FC Liverpool, Galatasaray, the Glasgow Rangers, Flamengo and FC Basel, the high society of world football is represented bringing their legions of fans to the race track stadiums of Nurburgring or Jerez or to the TV screens worldwide to watch who will be crowned as the Champion of Superleague Formula.
Superleague Formula debuted in 2008 with six races that will be increased to nine in 2009. The target is to reach 17 races in the 2012 season, four of them outside Europe.

Designed by ELAN Motorsport, one of the world’s most renowned racing car specialists, this Formula 1 type of car has a 4.2 litre V12 engine by Menard Competition Technologies that puts 750 horse powers on the wheels. It is a very high-tech car that is positioned just under Formula one from the technical and performance point-of-view. The sound is incredible and probably the nicest music for the real car freak. The cars are operated by leading motor racing teams who also select the drivers who are promising young talents and the stars of tomorrow. Importantly, most drivers also have strong tie to the club colours he is driving. From the technical perspective, all cars are identical, so this is a race at its finest: man against man, club against club like on the football pitch.
The Race Weekend
The race format provides for maximum excitement with the right mix of fun and involvement. Superleague Formula’s Weekend experience caters to a general audience who love football and motor racing, it brings a very important 18 to 40 young football-loving target group to motor sport and it is the ideal platform for a perfect family weekend ensuring the fast-paced growth of the project. This is pure multi-faceted entertainment with music on the Central Stage, stunt shows and other attractions in this theme park of motor car racing, such as 3-seater driving experience, VIP celebrity and football star appearances, mini football and multimedia shows and games. The unique “Pit Walk” experience and a high-profile VIP Hospitality offering rounds off the experience.
© Superleague FormulaThe Press
In its first year, Superleague Formula has achieved a remarkable media coverage, especially in the countries where the races took place. However, through a well-concepted television policy, in many countries in the world, fans can follow the races live on TV, such as on Eurosport 2 in Switzerland and Sky in the United Kingdom. SFTV (Superleague Formula TV) is offering a 52 minute long pre-produced “free-to-air” highlight programme to other broadcasters on the Sunday of the race. Video News Release and b-roll material is also available and accessible for broadcasters. A very specific platform for Superleague Formula is the opportunity to broadcast the races on the participating clubs’ own fan-TV networks as it is the case with FC Basel, but also with FC Liverpool, AC Milan and many others. This obviously ensures a very direct communication to so far undiscovered target comsumer groups.
Marketing
The concept of Superleague Formula is developed for marketing providing unique communication, advertising and direct marketing platforms to very specific target groups. These include Event Sponsorhip, Team Sponsorship, VIP Hospitality and commercial airtime on television. This is complemented by possible designations as “Race Partner”, “Official Partner” and “National Partner”. Superleague Formula’s aim is to maximize exposure for its partners and therefore marketing exposure is only possible for a limited number of partners to make sure that these get the necessary recognition instead of having an “ocean” of different logos on the cars and on the drivers.
It is also possible to build a specific association with a specific club.
On the team level the following sponsorship levels are offered: Primary Partner, Official Partner and Official Supplier. Due to its specific TV arrangements, Superleague Formula can guarantee the exposure of all its marketing partners.
Hospitality
Superleague Formula is offering a Hospitality Programme that is designed to provide a business platform to entertain business associates and other guests. The hospitality concept ensures the necessary privacy, but is also promoting social networking among participants. Very high level services are provided including gourmet catering, and all this right at the pole position, with perfect view of the race in the hospitality facilities or on the pit terrace.
